Question 1 – Would you vote in favour of the current transit plan?
Katherine Hobbs – Would I vote in favour of the current transit plan? Yes Why? Ottawa deserves a world class transportation system. Building one takes careful attention to the transportation needs of current and future neighbourhoods, as well as environmental needs. Ottawa can no longer accommodate the transportation needs of its citizens on buses, and therefore we need to move to a light rail system and alleviate the bottlenecks in the downtown with a tunnel. And buses are noisy and emit fumes that are bad for us and our environment, while trains are quiet. The Tunnel: Cost $785M. Surface Rail in Downtown: $400M Not building a tunnel downtown will end up costing taxpayers dearly down the road. As soon as a surface route would be completed in the downtown core, we would be out of capacity and need to build a tunnel. As a taxpayer I expect City Council to make wise and…*

Question 2 – Working on council requires working with people of differing political views and outlooks. What experience would you bring that would allow you to be effective in working with those of differing views than your own. How would you describe your approach in dealing with people with different viewpoints?
Katherine Hobbs – After 30 years in business I have garnered a great of experience in dealing with differing viewpoints. I have developed numerous applicable skills from working on cross-border policy negotiations. By virtue of different corporate objectives and countries, a large degree of finesse, understanding, ability to compromise, and ability to work out effective solutions is required. I possess a proven ability to work together with diverse teams to create successful outcomes. I am a good consensus builder, and a good decision maker. I am also highly creative in making suggestions for different ways of achieving objectives. These are the skills I possess which will contribute to my success on City Council, should I have the privilege of being elected on October 25.
Christine Leadman – My evolution over the past forty years, in career and life, has provided me with a well rounded view and sensitivity in dealing with the intricacies of working with people from all walks of life. The areas of expertise that my experience includes are the service industry, arts community, fundraiser, member based organizations, boards of director (Chair and member), private sector business, think tanks, sports instructor, community volunteerism and parenting. The diversity and complexities captured in this broad range of work environments and life situations requires a high degree of interpersonal skills for collaboration and successful outcomes. These skills however are grounded in the basic principles of human nature that provide the foundation to be successful in any scenario be it Council or the Boardroom: respect, courtesy, ability to listen and understand, high principles, integrity and a sound governance structure to be adhered to. I believe Council starts with a… (150 word limit)
